Still Hobbling Around

I'm still on non weight bearing and am having to negotiate my knee scooter in treacherous weather conditions, since Chicago has been hit by the first winter storm of the season. I have been very fortunate that we've had so warm and dry a November, but have been dreading snowy and icy sidewalks. This morning was much better than was forecasted. It was only wet, but not slippery.

Raised Toilet Seat

Who would imagine that something so simple as a raised toilet seat with handles could make my life so much better?
After spending ten days hoisting myself on and off the toilet, the raised toilet seat arrived yesterday. Ahhhhhhhhh!
It is so wonderful and my husband and son also love it. When you lose your mobility, you really appreciate the little things that make you more comfortable. When my ankle heals, I will never again take for granted being able bodied. This has really been a… Continue

I've Fallen and I've Broken My Ankle

Friday, October 16. Well, it's been a week since I slipped on a wet grate on a sidewalk in Evanston, IL on my way to get something healthy to eat and broke my left ankle. I won't be massaging anyone any time soon. I have been hopping around on my right leg with the use of the walker. Now, not only does my left ankle hurt, but so does my right buttock and my arms. Sensory Processing Disorder

After a 7 year odyssey, we have finally figured out the reason for my 8 year old adopted son's severe behavior disorder; Sensory Processing Disorder (SID). It is a neurological disorder, not a mental illness and it affects a person's ability to process sensory stimuli. In my son's case, he is Hyposensitive so his brain doesn't get enough stimulation.
