To me, the essence of professional social networking can be summarized in one word: PROJECTS.
OneProjectTogether.com currently points to MyVirtualPowerForum.com to serve as a philosophical reminder that the very essence of social networking is projects...
OneProjectTogether.com is a social networking project dedicated to using the extraordinary power of social media to find, create, COMPLETE, and PROFIT from PROJECTS!
It is bringing the awesome power of Linkedin and Facebook and Twitter and FriendFeed and Google and Yahoo and Microsoft and Linux and Firefox and Opera, Flock, Kartoo, and all the other rapidly expanding confluence of tools currently comprising Web 2.0 into conjunction with the even greater things represented by the creative potential of 8,900 people from around the world.
Though many may think that social networking is about collecting contacts and/or email addresses, One Project Together is intended to help us focus on working together on PROJECTS. That's it. That's all.
It's about BUILDING something rather than collecting something.
BUILDING is at the CORE of focusing on one project, together.
Collecting connections is - of necessity - essential but, secondary.
One Project Together is about starting projects with the connections we already HAVE - AND - leaving the door(s) open for others who may want to join us.
If we heat up our environment with good projects, people will be drawn to the heat and will join us. It is my belief that they will gladly offer their hands in support if they see that our hands are already engaged in constructively, positively BUILDING something.
While it is our preference that everyone here should benefit from our gathering here, those who are currently with us but who do not wish to build - even one project together with us - are free to watch as a lurkers or free to leave as doubters. The latter statement is meant for nothing else other than for clarification, codification of a fact - to make the obvious as obvious as possible.
I don't know about you but, I don't like the feeling of wasting my passion. I love, love, LOVE being passionate about the design, implementation, and fulfillment of projects. Ummm, that's the thing that gives meaning to all the things we do - year to do - ache in our souls to do - the passionate indulgence in pursuing a project to its conclusion, its fulfillment.
While the world may ridicule us for dreaming these dreams, dreams in the right hands, with the right support, with the right intensity of passion can overpower the messages of doubt from even the most ardent naysayers. Let them wear their throats out with their doubt. We can build. We were DESIGNED to build. We SHOULD build. That is the whole purpose of the passion burning so INTENSELY in so many of us. We NED to build - SOMETHING. We are STRESSED out because we have passion that's not properly aligned with the right projects, meaningful projects. Give a person the right project to work on and they can work on it with greater intensity for longer periods of time with less wear and tear and stress. We wear out because we're not aligned with the proper pursuits/projects.
Let's do something together.
Let's set a goal of doing ONE PROJECT TOGETHER within the next 16 months - between August 23, 2008 and December 31, 2009...
With 8,900 members on MyVirtualPowerForum.com, that's potentially 890 project teams of 10 people or 89 teams of 100 people or a whole bunch of other permutations and combinations of people! :-) In other words, no shortage of people - except in our own imagination(s).
There are professional and amateur Project Managers here on MyVirtualPowerForum.com - in abundance. I know because I've watched each member who's joined MVPF over the first 3 1/2 years of its life.
Bottom line: I want to accomplish something with you - whether it be career, business, social issue, or other, let's set our sights firmly on accomplishing ONE PROJECT TOGETHER, ok?
Heck, even if you don't want to work on a project specifically with me, I'd take great, deep delight in your using this Forum of 8,900 people to help you accomplish one good project over the next 16 months.
Why 16 months? No particular reason other than I feel by that time I'll be so old I wont' care if you've worked on a project! (I'm just TEASING! :-))
But seriously: Let's go do One Project Together!
