If Goals Are The Answer, Why Are Your Friends Who've Achieved Your Goals Depressed?

Most of us who've been attentive to our coaches, counselors, teachers, preachers, and consultants have been at one time or another told something like, "You've got to set goals in order to get what you want."

And while I, too, believe that you have to set goals if you want to get something out of life, I believe there's a critically important problem with overly focusing on goals: goals don't guarantee happiness.

If you think they do, then answer this: "If goals are the…

Biggest Mistakes Made by Social Media Gurus

While I'm not sure they're the biggest mistakes made by social media gurus, this list from Mashable.com contains some pretty big ones:

Respond to all negative comments –

Participate in flame wars to increase traffic –

Hire a voice talent for $2,000 to read a podcast for you –

Send a specially selected mass mailing to your friends –

Assume that social media doesn’t exist until you arrive –

Post a comment on your own Facebook profile wall –

Don’t engage…

Why I Chose To Be A Category Leader For Ki Work

With the recent news concerning huge changes in the global economic markets and the prospective impact on employment around the world, you and I must force ourselves to pay more attention to how these global tectonics will impact our businesses, our careers, and the social causes which means so much to us.

It’s not an overstatement to say you and I are involved in these global crises.

They impact us.

The significance of the dramatic, record-breaking changes such… Continue

In The Semantic Web, Do You Know How To Distinguish Between An Ontology And A Taxonomy

I'm proud to count some pretty sharp Information Technology professionals as my personal friends. But, in 20+ years of talking to Information Technology professionals during thousands of personal and professional recruitment interviews, and as brilliant as they are in all other areas of IT, it amazes me the variation in descriptions, the utter lack of consensus in description I get when I ask IT professionals to differentiate between a taxonomy and an ontology.

With the…

Global Social Networking Tip: Morning Mind, Mid-day Mind, Mid-night Mind

My morning mind which I awaken with is not the same as my midnight mind with which I prepare to go to sleep.

And, too, no matter what the project, my body clock can tell when the mid-day hours of 2-4 pm arrive. (I really was designed with a penchant for brief siestas! :-) )

Let's assume that to be the case for you, too....

If I'm talking to you using my morning mind and you're talking to me using your midnight mind, can that affect the business we must…

Ok, Your Network Is Big But, Is It Designed The Right Way To Help You?

I don't think this question needs much of a preamble but, if you haven't yet heard concerns and not-too-optimistic predictions about the global economy, perhaps you should open a separate tab and take a very quick peek at a financial news channel! :-)

But, assuming you have heard about the challenges OUR global economy is facing and assuming you have a sizable Linkedin network - OR - sizeable network elsewhere, there's still one other critical question to ask yourself regarding…

Sometimes More Than A Linkedin Link Is Needed

In the process of reviewing a few thousand records of people whom I'm looking to recommend for what could be a profitable venture for them, I downloaded the membership information for Brandergy.com

One of the fields in those records was an "About Me" field.

An overwhelming majority of the members put in some text describing a little bit about themselves PLUS they also included their Linkedin ID.

A smaller…

WARNING: Spamming WILL Get You BANNED!

WARNING: One of the practices we've been working to discourage is the practice of pasting the same message on the pages of multiple members and multiple groups.

UNFORTUNATELY, we've had to remove some members who persist in this particular form of what we call profile stamping - also known to some people as spamming.

I've written to all other members about this before. Some members may have miss it but, within the past week or so, I've sent out several messages asking… Continue
