Even for inveterate optimists, some problems can be so numbing to our souls that even those of us who know we're blessed can forget just how very, much we have to be grateful for. (I liken it to *knowing* you're eating great tasting food but, with a burned tongue.)

Even those of us who've never had  a long string of easy days can be deeply grateful for this: the opportunity to contend for something AWESOME but, which seems out of our reach.

If we can contend, ...even against the greatest odds... we can be grateful ...  ...
ALL of us can contend for something AWESOME, something out of reach...
Whether we've experienced a long sequence or great days or a long sequence of bad days or a mixture of good and bad days, NONE of us should not be grateful because we should be grateful that we CAN still contend ... that we CAN still TRY.  (By the way: No matter what the little fictional character Yoda may say against "trying", "TRY" is not a "four-letter-word".  Indeed it's one of the best words and one of THE BEST THINGS YOU CAN EXPERIENCE ... trying to do something you haven't yet done ... )

One of my favorite gratitude quotes is an expression of *anticipatory* gratitude:
"Give thanks for unknown blessings already on their way" ...

And that because it helps heal us, it helps encourage us BEFORE the needed stuff, BEFORE the fully appreciated stuff shows up.

It's like saying: "I betcha sumptin GOOD is gonna happen to me, SOON!" ...

If they knew better, they'd express their gratitude. If they don't ever express their gratitude, they don't yet know any better. #Gratitude
