When we establish rituals in our lives, we make room for creative ideas to surface. Here’s why: rituals and routines eliminate the need for making constant choices which allows us to conserve our energy and use it for other things. This works wonders in leadership. Why? It makes it easy for people to follow!
Every time you change it can cause confusion, re-training, and essentially tops another practice. Starting something new can be the best thing you ever did, just be sure it is worth the slow down in growth that will occur. The only danger in the consistency and rituals strategy is “structure overkill”. This can actually work against creativity by pigeonholing our brains into thinking in only one direction. The trick is to balance structure with open-mindedness for optimal results. However, eliminating having to make too many choices on a daily, weekly and yearly basis is a great starting point for letting your creativity and joy thrive.
