A declaration, a revelation, and a promise of "a future why":
1. "I cannot afford not to be an open networker on Linkedin."
2. Nor can Linkedin afford for its members to not be open networkers.
3. I hope to explain why/how I reached my declaration and revelation a
little bit later during the course of this week..

If I'm an adult citizen, I don't need Linkedin to try to serve as my parent telling me whom I can and cannot connect with and under what circumstances.

LinkedIn should have a way to designate what type you are and make it consistent. In other words, accept the fact that "different strokes for different folks" is reality and accommodate it.

However, I agree with you about Linkedin's serious inconsistencies with LION's and Toplinkedin, etc.
The reason I say that is these things weren't permitted then they WERE permitted then they were IGNORED and now they're being challenged again - even after more than one intimation that Linkedin was RECOMMENDING them to non-group members...
